There is a need for Civic Technology in Southern Africa.
In 2017 I had the opportunity to work on a small construction project as a Community Liaison Officer(CLO). Fast forward a few years, I had developed a system to Train and Manage Multiple CLO’s working on many different public and private sector construction projects.
Local-Link is the result of those years of effort focused at organizing a neglected aspect of the public and private sectors employment processes on large infrastructure projects. I say neglected because for the thousands of projects that have CLO’s employed on them across the country from their respective communities, Zero of these CLO’s have any form of standardized training. The only requirement for an individual to work as a CLO is that they reside in the community and have a matric certificate.
Why is this important & why should we pay attention to this?
It does a tremendous disservice to both the community and the private sector employing the CLO to not have a correctly resourced CLO perform their role and duties effectively.
What does the app seek to do?
Like the father of modern business management Peter Drucker once said “What gets measured gets managed.” Local-Link seeks to manage the community interface and to provide a window of transparency for the public and the important stakeholders of a project. Local-Link is free for CLO’s to use and free for the public to consume the information shared about large infrastructure projects in the community.
The CLO management system has the capability to track and quantify the social Impact a project has in the community. It does this by accurately measuring the activities of a CLO after they’ve been trained through our system.

Sustainable Agriculture
Supporting and nurturing small businesses is at the heart of my mission to build a stronger local economy, this project has a particular focus on sustainable agriculture. Through Izora Trading, with Khethelo Mhlongo at the helm, we are dedicated to providing food security and creating jobs by empowering local farmers and ensuring fair market access for their produce. My days of committee and volunteer civic work might be behind me, but now I’m taking an active role getting my hands dirty, tilling the soil for our future.
My reasoning is straight forward: By expanding the number of operational farms and establishing a highly efficient transport network, we can ensure that fresh and affordable produce reaches all communities across South Africa. We must harness the incredible potential of our unique climate and fertile lands in Southern Africa, taking action rather than waiting for external solutions.
The opportunity to grow, develop skills, and uplift communities is within our grasp, and by working together, we can achieve remarkable progress. Let’s cultivate a thriving agricultural sector that provides sustainable livelihoods, revitalizes our rural areas, and ensures that every corner of our country has access to the fresh produce it needs. South Africa is a nation brimming with untapped athletic potential, yet our athletes often go unnoticed, their talents overshadowed by the daily struggles they face. It’s time we change that. It’s time we bring our athletes into the light, showcasing their dedication, passion, and undeniable skill. We need to remind ourselves and the world that South Africa is home to extraordinary talent, and that dreams, no matter how big, are worth chasing.
Sports have a unique power to unite people, to transcend the divides that politics often deepen. They ignite passion, hope, and a sense of belonging in ways few other things can. For many, sports represent more than just competition; they symbolize the pursuit of a dream, the relentless drive to push beyond limits. But for our athletes to truly flourish, they need more than just their inner fire—they need our support, our belief in them.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible talent hidden in every corner of our country—from Limpopo to the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga to KZN. I’ve seen young boxers with the potential to compete on the world stage, but who struggle to make ends meet, balancing their training with the harsh realities of providing for their families. These athletes have the talent, the drive, and the passion, but what they lack are the resources and the support to take their skills to the next level.
That’s why I’ve taken it upon myself to film, document, and promote our athletes. I want the world to see what I see: the determination in their eyes, the sweat on their brows, the sheer willpower that drives them to train day in and day out. I’ve traveled across the country, often at my own expense, to create promotional reels that showcase their talent. These videos aren’t just about highlighting their skills—they’re about inspiring others to believe in their own dreams, to push their bodies and minds to their fullest potential.
We only get to live our lives once. Why not make it a life worth living by pursuing something as beautiful as sport? Why not invest in our athletes, give them the support they need, and watch as they rise to greatness? With the right backing, our athletes can achieve anything. They can bring pride to our nation, inspire the next generation, and remind us all that dreams, no matter how big, are worth fighting for.
This is more than just a project for me—this is my passion, my way of giving back to a country that has so much to offer. I want people to see these athletes, to believe in them, and to support them in any way they can. Because when we uplift our athletes, we uplift our nation. Together, we can make sure that the world sees the true potential of South Africa’s sporting talent. Let’s make dreams come true, one athlete at a time.
