Learning Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu

The Path of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: My Evolution

Welcome to my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey, where every roll on the mat is a step toward mastery. This page is dedicated to documenting my experiences as I learn, train, and compete in BJJ. Through a combination of videos, written reflections, and blog posts, you’ll witness my growth in this demanding and intricate martial art, from the fundamentals to advanced techniques, all while embracing the challenges that come with it.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a sport—it’s a mental and physical chess game that requires strategy, patience, and resilience. Alongside videos of my training sessions, sparring matches, and competition highlights, I’ll be sharing blog posts where I reflect on my experiences, lessons learned, and the mental and strategic insights I’ve gained. These posts will provide deeper context to the techniques and philosophies that drive my practice.

Whether you’re a fellow practitioner, a martial arts enthusiast, or someone interested in the discipline, I hope these videos, writings, and reflections offer valuable insights, inspiration, and a glimpse into the relentless pursuit of excellence in BJJ.

Thank you for joining me on this path. Your support, advice, and feedback are invaluable as I continue to evolve as a martial artist. Let’s keep pushing boundaries, learning, and improving together, one submission at a time.

My first time Competing

When I got the news on short notice about a jiu-jitsu competition hosted by Submission Kings in Randburg, I jumped at the chance to compete. I quickly registered and drove up with my team from Durban to Johannesburg, feeling the excitement build despite the thinner air up there. The event at Walter Sisulu Hall was intense, and some of the fights were really tough, but I loved every moment of it. Spending time with my teammates and coach made the experience even better. I also started recording footage during the competition, which sparked a new interest in filmmaking and vlogging. My first video edits weren’t great, but I’m getting better, and it’s been fun capturing these moments.

CIT Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu with Neil Geyser

Training Jiu-jitsu in Pretoria was an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to take a few lessons under Neil Geyser, the head jiu-jitsu instructor at CIT. I absolutely love his style of teaching—he brings a grappling and judo approach to the mat, and his philosophy about combat and sequences really resonates with me. Neil doesn’t just teach the techniques; he explains the fundamental logic behind them, making it easy to understand why we do what we do in jiu-jitsu. You can tell how skilled he is—he’s a high level black belt, and his expertise shines through in every lesson. Some people just have a natural talent for teaching, and Neil is definitely one of them.
